Hello Everyone,
This week's journal entry is to develop a family tree of narratives or social media accounts that influence you. Well after thought, I narrowed my two main inspirations for social media. The first one would be the Warhammer 40k subreddit. Reddit in general is an online community where there are different pages for different groups or interests, that people can post about those interests. These different smaller pages are called subreddits. The Warhammer 40k subreddit is a group about the hoby of 40k that players and hobbyist alike can come and post questions about the game, pictures about the models they are painting, and many other topics within the hobby. What inspires me about this social media account is the sense of community within the group. Each person is there for a reason, and we all want to see each others accomplishments and the battle reports(games) that we all played. The overall feel of the subreddit is serious in the fact that we are all there to talk about 40k, but in that seriousness, we all have fun with the hobby. My second social media account that influences me is the work of Matt Carriker and his YouTube channels and his Instagram account. The story that Matt is telling is him as a father, vet, YouTuber, streamer, and an American. He calls his following the demolitia which brings in a sense of community and that we are all following because we have similar interests. The example I am using for Matt is Instagram, where he posts pictures and sometimes video clips. But he also has three YouTube channels, each one different from the other but they all have some of the same messages. His videos are often for entertainment, but he will give motivational speeches sometimes or he’ll post a motivational picture. Overall his channels influence me by the style he likes to portray messages or meanings. In his channel, Off The Ranch, he often says "Do something today that will make your life easier tomorrow". I try to take that saying and use it in my daily life but I digress. But like I said earlier, the style that he uses in his channels are often light hearted but meaningful but they all have a serious undertone that tries to convey a message. Now to relate these accounts and communities to my own narratives, I would like to convey a sense of community in my narratives. I want the readers to feel like they are apart of the world they are reading or to feel that they are alive in it following along. I would also like to convey a message that isn't necessarily obvious but shows that there is always more to a story than what it first scene. Well I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and enjoying the holiday!
